The Australian selectors have left themselves with a variety of options after naming a 13-man squad for the inaugural day/night test match.
With the retirement of Mitchell Johnson and a hamstring injury ruling Usman Khawaja out, selectors have added James Pattinson, Shaun Marsh and Stephen O’Keefe to the squad while also retaining Peter Siddle.
The only obvious change will be Marsh to come in for Khawaja to get yet another chance to prove his worth at the top level.
Most of the focus however will be on the makeup of the bowling attack with Pattinson the frontrunner to take over Johnson’s vacated spot in the pace trio ahead of his fellow Victorian Siddle.
Like most years when the Test match circus roles into Adelaide there is always talk around the possibility of playing two spinners and this is where O’Keefe could come into calculations.
The final and deciding Test match between Australia and New Zealand will kick off on Friday, November 27.
