Rugby league legend Mal Meninga has been named as the new coach of the Australian Kangaroos.
This will see the end of Meninga’s record breaking time as Queensland Maroons mentor where he led them to nine series wins in ten years.
Despite having signed with the QRL to coach the Maroons for another three years, Meninga jumped at the chance to take on the top job with the national side to round out a career that will undoubtedly see him soon become an immortal of the game.
Big Mal takes over the post vacated by Tim Sheens who struggled in recent years to get acceptable results with the Kangaroos.
The race for the vacated Queensland State of Origin coaching role looks as if it will come down to Kevin Walters and Michael Hagan.
