The hottest Brownlow favourite in recent memory Nat Fyfe looks on track to claim ‘Charlie’ after being cleared by the MRP, while Luke Hodge looks set for a stint on the sidelines.
Hearts were in mouths across the football world on Sunday afternoon when Fyfe was reported for a clash with North Melbourne’s Ben Jacobs.
Having come close a couple of times this season to being suspended, many thought that this incident may have ruined his Brownlow hopes.
But the match review panel threw out field umpire Brett Rosebury’s report saying that there was insufficient forceful contact in the collision and as a result they took no further action.
While there was relief for Fyfe, Hawthorn skipper Hodge can accept a two-match ban from the Match Review Panel after his bump on Port Adelaide’s Chad Wingard.
In the third quarter Hodge seemed to have sandwiched Wingard’s head between the point post and his hip.
Reported for rough conduct, the MRP assessed the incident as careless conduct with medium impact to the head and classified it as a two-game sanction.
Due to his poor record Hodge will face a three game suspension if he fights the charge at the Tribunal and loses.
If the early guilty plea is taken Hodge will be forced to sit out the remaining two rounds of the regular season, but will be available for week one of the finals.
