After what was virtually a fire sale of players at South Sydney to clear salary cap room, NRL officials are pleased that the Rabbitohs will now be inside the cap for the 2016 season and beyond.

The return of the 2014 Clive Churchill Medallist comes at the cost of star outside back Dylan Walker who made the move to Manly while former Queensland representative Chris McQueen was squeezed out and is now at the Gold Coast.

Burgess’ return come after just a year in Rugby that saw him represent England in their disastrous World Cup campaign.

The South Sydney hierarchy will be hoping his return is enough to spark their team into action after an underwhelming Premiership defence in 2015.
